Prep Community

I'm Steve Dombrowski and I am from Washington Township, New Jersey. I love sports and music. I also have a 2 year old golden retriever named Riley. For my essay I've decided to share the uniqueness of the Prep Community. St. Augustine Prep is where I went to high school and I plan on sharing how we are different than most high schools. Through sports, academics, and even alumni events the Prep's "Brotherhood" still goes strong.

    Steve,

    This sounds like a great topic. I've cautioned students about writing about their high school communities before because in most cases, one high school is not unique enough to position it as its own community distinctive from the typical American high school community. You will not have this problem. Keep in mind, though, that you're writing to an audience who is neither a member of your St Augustine Prep community NOR a prep high school in general. In other words, write to a public high school audience.

    In terms of research, look for some internal and external literature about your school. If you want to focus on sports, academics, and alumni events, look for news articles that cover these events and contrast them with that of a public high school.
