I am Emily Unger. I was born and raised Mechanicsville, VA with both of my parents and my older brother. All my friends at school think I live out in the boonies because of the name of my town, but Mechanicsville is just suburban America. I am a nursing major here at JMU, and although trying to get into that major is very stressful I would not have wanted to go to another school. For my narrative I plan on writing about being a part of my high school track team. Although I did not run for all four years track was a major part of my life and taught me so much. I learned a lot about how people perceive you based on your actions and it really shaped my life and my time spent in high school.

    I think this topic is very good because being a part of a sports team is special. People tend to share a bond over a common trait and especially in sports. There is nothing like being part of a community like this.

    This sounds good, Emily. A LOT of you are writing about sports teams and I have the same recommendations for you. First, make sure you introduce the sport completely. Assume that your audience is not familiar with the sport. It is up to you whether you want to write about the track team community at large or your own individual team. If you write about your own team, explore the dynamics and expectations as thoroughly as you can.

    Have you thought about what research you will use? If you can find something published about your own team you can use that, but you may be better of researching something about the general track community.

    I'm writing about a similar topic so I completely agree with how much a sports team can affect your life. It might be good to right about the ups and downs you've had with track or give a specific example on how it has impacted your life.

    Through playing basketball year round in high school i know this topic definitely has many components that you can expand on in your paper. Maybe in your paper you could explain how being on a sports team in high school affected the social aspect of life.
