My name is Alanna Herman and I am a psychology major and Spanish minor. I want to be fluent in Spanish and I would like to study abroad in Spain. I lived in Reading, Pennsylvania for most of my life but my family is currently in the process of moving to Massachusetts. I have one older sister and two miniature dachshunds, Olive and Franklin. Ever since I was in elementary shcool, I have always wanted to play the violin. After ten years of playing, it still remains one of my passions and it has played a large role in my life. In my narrative, I plan to explain the power of music and how it has impacted me.

    I think it's awesome that you play the violin! I know music has affected many lives, so I think it will be really interesting hearing how it has affected you!

    This sounds like a good topic, Alanna! There is plenty of research to draw upon about the power of music (especially classical music!), and it sounds like you have a good amount of personal experiences to incorporate into your narrative. Have you thought about what you want to use for the personal account portion of your essay? If you haven't, I recommending thinking about one definitive experience that impacted your love for music.

    The only concern I have is that your topic is very broad. The music community or even the violin community can apply to many different people in many different locations who either practice on a rigid schedule every day or who hardly practice at all. Do you want to focus on musicians or lovers of classical music? This topic sounds good, just think about how you want to focus.

    This is an awesome idea. Violin is amazing. (check this guy out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnTBPSJBwAg he's my favorite player on youtube) I think for your research end you should study the positive learning effects classical music has on the mind. It is known that classical music can aid in learning. You could expand on that and explain that concept
